LIKE most of his comedic songs, it's the naughty adjective that gives Kevin "Bloody" Wilson the recognition and personality.

With about 27 years in the industry, it's easy to see why the legendary singer - almost unrecognisable without the "Bloody" middle name - has survived so long.

Wilson oozes friendliness and modesty as he tries to put his finger on why he has endured in a sometimes cut-throat industry.

"I tend to work in the vernacular," he said.

"I think if you look at my stuff and take out all the dirty words you still end up with something meaningful."

Wilson said to this day he had never set out to offend or shock people.

"It was a surprise when they went so well," he said.

"I thought I was just doing songs about Mick the Master that no one else would understand."

>>More entertainment

Wilson said he did not think people outside of his friends at the Kalgoorlie pub would have been able to relate.

But they did.

The simple method of success is still one that Wilson uses to this day.

"A joke has to make me laugh, and then my friends," he said.

"We sit around my bar and have a couple of beers and we see if they laugh."

Wilson admits a lot of his blue jokes and crude use of language is not everyone's cup of tea - but nor does he care.

"It's a pretty polarising type of entertainment and there are still a lot of people who do enjoy it," he said.

"We are now looking at getting three generations of the family to the show and they are not just the males either."

It seems unlikely Wilson's humour will be curbed by polite thinking.

"I don't subscribe to political correctness," he said.

Wilson will be bringing his Excess All Areas tour to the Brothers Sports Club on October 18.

Tickets are available from the venue.
