HANOVER, VA (WWBT)- A Virginia Army National Guard helicopter from Sandston was forced to land in a Hanover?County?cornfield Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter made a precautionary landing around 12:30 p.m. in a field near Old Quaker and Cold Harbor roads, according to Cotton Puryear, Communications Director for the Virginia Department of Military Affairs.
Three soldiers were conducting a routine training mission when they were forced to land. No one was injured. The Black Hawk's sensors alerted the crew that they needed to land and they brought it down safely, under its own power.?Mechanics are inspecting the aircraft to see if it can fly safely back to Sandston.
The helicopter is from the Virginia Army National Guard's Sandston-based 2nd Battalion, 224th Aviation Regiment, 91st Troop Command.
