Pest Control Workers

Pest control workers examine the area where pests are invading a home. The worker will then create a plan of action in order to deal with the problem. Sometimes this includes using baits, chemicals or other means.

Fumigators

Sometimes, it is necessary to fumigate an area in order to kill the pests. During a fumigation, a poisonous gas is used to permeate a sealed area for a certain length of time. Strict procedure must be followed during fumigation. This includes following safety protocol.

Supervisors

The pest control supervisor will ensure that the workers follow procedure and that they work safely. Regulations specify that all workers should have some knowledge of pesticides as well as fumigators used on the job. Workers must also know how to legally and safely use these chemicals.

Continuous training ensures that workers are up to date on the latest laws. In some cases, laws require training on reading and understanding chemical labels. Understanding the labels is important to keep both workers and customers safe.

Pest control workers should at least have a high school diploma or a GED certificate before starting training. Workers should also have good math and English skills. A supervisor usually is required to have at least 2 years of experience in pest control. He or she must also pass a certification examination. Supervisors must be re-certified every so many years by taking an exam.
