Wilson returns to Richmond prior to first NFL training camp

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Former Collegiate star Russell Wilson is getting ready for his first NFL training camp, but first paid a visit to his hometown.? Wilson returned to the Richmond area to host his Russell Wilson Passing Academy, and made stop to raise money for his charity as well.

Wilson was the third round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in April's NFL Draft, and head coach Pete Carroll says the former Cougar will be in the running for the team's starting quarterback position.? He'll head to training camp later this month to begin his fight for that spot, where he'll compete with Tavarris Jackson and off-season acquisition Matt Flynn, who is considered the favorite to win the starting job for Seattle.

Wilson was at Disco Sports in Henrico County, signing autographs and promoting his charity, the CR3 Diabetes Association.? Diabetes is a disease that has played a role in Wilson's life, as his father passed away from diabetes.? Disco Sports also donated 10% of its sales to the foundation on Saturday.

The former Collegiate star's Russell Wilson Passing Academy is Saturday and Sunday at Tuckahoe Sports Complex.
